About Steven Richard
Steven Richard Saks built his legal foundation in the classroom. He graduated from Washington & Lee University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from DePaul College of Law in 2007. Those years shaped his approach to legal reasoning and argument, and they set the stage for his work in Illinois courts.
Early in his career he joined professional ranks that connect litigators across the state. He has been a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association since 2007. That long-standing membership places him among practitioners who regularly engage with trial procedure and courtroom practice. In 2015 he took on a visible role within the Chicago Bar Association, serving on its Judicial Evaluation Committee. His participation on that panel signals sustained involvement in bar governance and in assessing candidates for the bench.
Saks’s path has included steady engagement with the civic side of the profession. Serving on an evaluation committee requires frequent review of judicial records, interviews and collective deliberation. Those tasks demand attention to detail and an ability to weigh professional qualifications against ethical and performance standards. Colleagues on committees such as this often describe the work as exacting and consequential for local courts.
Across more than a decade and a half in practice, he has remained tied to Illinois. He is licensed to practice in the state and maintains professional memberships that reflect ongoing ties to the trial bar. His background in philosophy and the law surfaces in a methodical approach to case preparation. He emphasizes clarity in argument and careful analysis of precedent and procedure.
Outside formal roles, Saks has continued to participate in the legal community through committee work and association activities. Those activities have kept him connected to developments in judicial selection and trial practice. He balances committee responsibilities with client work and courtroom appearances.
As of 2026 he practices law in Illinois and concentrates on litigation and trial work in Illinois courts.
