About Steven L.
Steven L. Raynor took a philosophy degree from Randolph-Macon College in 1982 and moved quickly into legal studies at the University of Virginia School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1985. Those years shaped a methodical approach to problems. They also provided a foundation for the kind of careful analysis that shows up in his courtroom work and client advice.
After law school Raynor began a career centered at Raynor & Farmer, P.C. He has spent decades at that firm, handling matters that require both litigation experience and negotiated solutions. Over time he has built steady working relationships in the Virginia legal community and developed an understanding of how local courts and practitioners operate.
Raynor’s professional life includes membership in several bar groups. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association and the Virginia Bar Association. He is also active locally in the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association and in the State Bar of Virginia. In addition he belongs to the Virginia Family Law Coalition, a sign that his peers look to him on issues that affect families and domestic relations.
Colleagues describe him as practical in the courtroom and exacting in preparation. He approaches cases by breaking them into discrete issues, then addressing each one in turn. That style serves him well in contested hearings and in quieter conferences where the goal is a workable resolution. He combines litigated advocacy with client counseling and tends to prioritize clarity in both written filings and oral argument.
Outside of court, Raynor participates in professional discussions and continuing legal education that touch on family law and related civil practice. He has maintained long-term ties to Virginia’s legal institutions and to the region where he practices. Those ties inform his perspective on procedural and substantive developments in state law.
Now in practice at Raynor & Farmer, P.C., he remains engaged in matters arising in Virginia courts and in the professional associations that shape practice standards. He currently concentrates his practice on family law matters at Raynor & Farmer, P.C.
