About Steven
Steven Jumes began his legal journey at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a B.A. in Government in 1990. He stayed in Austin to complete his J.D. at The University of Texas School of Law in 1993. Those formative years placed him in a legal community dense with trial courts and busy dockets, and the experience shaped his route into public service and criminal defense.
Early in his career, Jumes worked as a trial lawyer for the U.S. Department of Justice, serving in what is reported as the United States Lawyer's Office. He later handled prosecutions at the county level, spending time in both the Tarrant County District Lawyer's Office and the Dallas County District Lawyer's Office. Those posts put him in court regularly and exposed him to a broad range of felony and misdemeanor matters.
In 2015 he joined Varghese Summersett as a partner. The move marked a transition from government prosecutions to defense work and private practice. Four years later he established his own firm and became the managing partner of The Law Office of Steven Jumes in 2019. That progression shows a steady shift toward leading a practice and advising clients directly.
Jumes is certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is admitted to practice in Texas and before several federal forums, including the Fifth Circuit, the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He maintains memberships in professional groups such as the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Bar Association. He also holds membership in the State Bar of Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Colleagues describe him as an attorney who spends a lot of time in courtrooms and preparing for trial. His career path—federal trial work, county prosecutorial roles, a partnership in private practice, and then founding his own firm—reflects sustained courtroom practice and case management. He has handled a mix of criminal matters over decades, drawing on his prosecutorial background when representing clients.
Today, Jumes runs The Law Office of Steven Jumes and continues to represent people in criminal cases. He practices criminal law at his firm.
