About Stephen William

Stephen William Grosh followed a steady path into the courtroom. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996 and returned to the same university for his law degree, receiving a J.D. in 2003. Those formative years set the stage for a legal career built around advocacy and courtroom procedure.

Fresh out of law school he spent time as a law clerk to the Honorable Hiram A. Carpenter in 2003. That role exposed him to judicial decision-making and the mechanics of case management. The clerkship offered a close view of written opinions and the pacing of trial calendars.

Grosh then moved into public defense. In 2005 he worked at the Lancaster Public Defender's Office. There he handled matters for clients in criminal cases and gained courtroom experience under pressure. The following year he joined Smoker Gard Associates LLP as a lawyer, transitioning into private practice and expanding his litigation repertoire.

He has maintained admissions in Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials reflect work that has spanned trial courts and appellate filings. Over time his practice has combined courtroom advocacy with drafting briefs and handling procedural work in higher courts.

In 2013 Grosh opened his own practice, operating as the Law Office of Stephen W Grosh. As owner and attorney he has overseen case strategy, client counseling, and the daily responsibilities of running a small firm. His background — clerkship, public defense, and private firm experience — informs how he approaches cases and client interactions.

Colleagues and clients see him as a lawyer who knows local court processes and federal appellate procedures. He has built a practice that draws on years of litigation experience and practical understanding of courtroom dynamics. The office represents clients across matters that require courtroom representation or appellate briefing.

He currently practices through the Law Office of Stephen W Grosh and concentrates on criminal defense, appellate advocacy, and civil litigation in Pennsylvania and federal courts.
