Stephen Robert Barry is a seasoned trial attorney and mediator based in New Orleans, Louisiana. With over 30 years of experience, he specializes in personal injury, insurance defense, arbitration and mediation, and maritime law. As a founding partner of Barry, Rome & Scott, Stephen is known for his strategic insight and unwavering dedication to client advocacy. In 1988, Stephen earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This engineering background gave him a meticulous and solution-oriented approach to litigation.
Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued a Juris Doctorate at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, graduating in 1992. Admitted to practice in Louisiana the same year, Stephen has since expanded his legal reach and has been a licensed member of the Texas State Bar since 2012. Stephen's practice encompasses many tort and insurance matters, including personal injury, commercial litigation, and maritime law. He has successfully tried numerous cases before juries and judges in both state and federal courts. His litigation prowess is further demonstrated by his experience arguing before the Louisiana Supreme Court and multiple appellate courts. This extensive trial experience forms the foundation for his successful mediation practice, where he employs a results-driven approach to resolve disputes.
In addition to his litigation work, Stephen founded Barry Rome Mediation, where he offers dispute resolution services informed by his vast trial experience. He received formal training from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law, enhancing his skills in mediation and arbitration. His ability to facilitate productive discussions has made him a sought-after mediator in the region. Stephen has also served in various leadership roles throughout his career. Notably, he was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court as Judge Pro Tempore in the Traffic and Municipal Courts of New Orleans. Additionally, he served as Deputy City Attorney, overseeing civil trial litigation and risk management for the city.
