About Stephen R.
Stephen R. Botti has spent decades working in family and matrimonial law. He trained first as a business undergraduate, earning a B.S. from the University of Richmond School of Business Administration in 1976, then turned to law at The T.C. Williams School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 1979. Those school years set the stage for a career that has combined courtroom work, bar leadership and private practice.
Early in his career he served as an Assistant State's Lawyer in Cook County in 1981. That role gave him regular exposure to contested hearings and the practical demands of courtroom advocacy. Over time he moved into family law and matrimonial matters, where he has handled a range of cases that require both negotiation and litigation skills.
Botti has been active in professional organizations for much of his career. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers and has held multiple leadership posts in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, including a term on the Board of Managers from 2011 to 2014, Vice President from 2014 to 2015, and President from 2015 to 2016. He served as an elected member of Illinois Super Lawyers from 2005 to 2014. Locally, he is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association’s Matrimonial Law Committee, and the Justinian Society of Lawyers.
His admissions include the bars of Illinois and Florida, and he is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Those credentials have allowed him to appear in state and federal forums on family law and related matters.
Botti’s practice has been based out of the firm Botti Marinaccio - Lawyers at Law. At the firm he has combined casework with mentoring younger attorneys and participating in bar activities. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and attentive to procedural detail.
Across decades of practice he has balanced courtroom advocacy with service to professional organizations. His leadership roles in national matrimonial groups reflect sustained involvement in the profession beyond individual casework. He maintains an active practice at Botti Marinaccio - Lawyers at Law, where he handles family and matrimonial matters.
