About Stephen H.
Stephen H. Kennedy graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Arts before earning his J.D. from Appalachian School of Law in 2007. The law degree marked a turning point. It set the stage for a career rooted in Virginia legal practice.
His first legal-related position listed was as a title abstracter at Altizer, Walk & White in 2006. That role gave him early exposure to real property records and the mechanics of transfer and encumbrance. He moved quickly into private practice after law school. In 2007 he became principal of Stephen H. Kennedy, Jr., Lawyer at Law, PLLC, launching a solo practice that handled a range of civil and family matters over subsequent years.
Kennedy’s résumé shows a steady move toward family law. He joined Slovensky Divorce & Family Law as a lawyer in 2023. That transition followed more than a decade operating his own firm. The work has included divorces, custody matters, spousal and child support issues, and property division. Courtroom appearances, negotiated settlements and client counseling have all been part of his day-to-day work.
Outside the office he participates in several local and state legal groups. He holds membership in the Roanoke Bar Association and belongs to the Family Law Section of the Virginia Bar Association. He takes part in community-oriented projects too. He is a participant in the Rule of Law Project, serves on the Board of Trustees for REACH, and is involved with the Barrister Book Buddy Program. These activities bring him into contact with other practitioners and with civic organizations across the region.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and practical at the negotiating table. Clients have turned to him for matters that require both procedural knowledge and hands-on guidance through emotional disputes. His professional path reflects steady engagement with Virginia’s legal system, beginning with property work and moving into family law practice.
Today he works at Slovensky Divorce & Family Law in Virginia. He is active in local bar groups and in community programs, and he continues to handle family law and divorce cases in the state where he was educated and has practiced.
He currently focuses his practice on family law and divorce matters in Virginia.
