About Stephen A.

Stephen A. Miller has built a career that moves between courtroom work and appellate argument. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University, earning an A.B. in 1993. He then attended Northwestern University School of Law and received his J.D. in 1997. Those academic years set the stage for a practice grounded in federal law and constitutional questions.

Early in his career Miller served as a law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia at the Supreme Court of the United States in 1998. That clerkship placed him at the center of appellate deliberations and exposed him to high‑stakes legal reasoning. He later joined the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York in 2001. In that role he handled federal prosecutions and related litigation matters.

In 2007 he moved to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, again serving as an Assistant United States Attorney. His time in both Southern District of New York and Eastern District of Pennsylvania provided sustained trial and appellate experience in federal courts. In 2010 he entered private practice at Cozen O Connor, where he took on litigation that draws on his government-side background.

Miller maintains active bar memberships in Illinois, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Those admissions allow him to operate across several jurisdictions and to address matters that cross state lines. Colleagues and opposing counsel alike have noted his familiarity with federal procedure and appellate briefing, qualities that trace back to his Supreme Court clerkship and years as a federal prosecutor.

Throughout his career Miller has balanced trial work and appellate writing. He moved from public service into law firm practice while keeping the same emphasis on federal cases. He practices at Cozen O Connor and handles matters arising in federal courts and appellate tribunals. His current practice focuses on matters in federal court and appellate litigation.
