About Sofia
Sofia Guzman took an unconventional route to the courtroom. She earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University in 2004 and completed her Juris Doctor at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2005, where she concentrated her studies in litigation. Those two degrees set a clear academic foundation for work that has crossed state and federal lines.
After law school she moved into practice and, over the following years, established a steady presence in Florida’s legal community. Court memberships and local bar involvement began appearing on her resume in 2009 and 2010. Those affiliations signaled an attorney comfortable handling matters in both state and federal forums.
Her academic background combines formal training in criminal justice with litigation coursework. That mix shows in the types of matters she takes on and the courtroom settings where she is active. The litigation emphasis from law school informs case strategy, while the graduate work provides a broader grasp of criminal process and procedure.
Guzman is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Florida and is admitted before the Federal Circuit. She also holds memberships in several federal district courts in Florida: the Southern District (membership since 2009), and both the Middle and Northern Districts (memberships since 2010). Those credentials allow her to represent clients in a range of federal and state proceedings, including criminal and civil litigation.
Her professional affiliations include membership in the American Bar Association beginning in 2009, along with local bar groups in Broward and Dade counties. She is also a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association. These associations reflect sustained participation in the professional community and a commitment to maintaining active relationships within the bench and bar.
Guzman operates out of her own firm, the Law Office of Sofia Guzman, P.A. There she handles matters that require courtroom experience and familiarity with both state and federal practice. She presents clients in arraignments, hearings and trials, and files matters in federal district courts when cases require it.
Her practice brings together litigation training and criminal justice study, and she represents individuals in criminal and civil matters across state and federal venues. Her current practice focuses on criminal defense and civil litigation at the Law Office of Sofia Guzman, P.A.
