About Shivani
Shivani Sutaria pursued an academic path that combined social science and law. She earned a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego in 1997 and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Southern California in 1999. She later completed her J.D. at the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2006.
Her schooling gave her tools for both analysis and advocacy. Sociology taught her to read institutions and social dynamics. Law school added case law, procedure and courtroom practice. After graduating, she entered legal practice in California and built a career rooted in that state’s courts and regulatory systems.
She is the principal lawyer and owner of Shivani Sutaria Law Offices. In that role she manages the firm’s day-to-day operations and carries primary responsibility for client matters. The practice operates under her direct supervision and she handles intake, strategy and client counseling. She has maintained active membership in the California State Bar and participates in the San Mateo Bar Association.
Colleagues describe her approach as practical and client-centered. She favors clear explanations over legalese. That orientation reflects her earlier training in sociology; it shows in how she assesses legal problems and communicates options. She aims to make the choices facing clients understandable, and to map out the procedural steps they will encounter.
Her work has been concentrated in California. She represents individuals and entities in matters that arise under state law and appears before local tribunals when required. She also advises clients on procedural requirements and the filings they will face.
