About Shazam
Shazam Kianpour brings an unusual academic background to the practice of law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1997, concentrating on human genetics and evolutionary biology. He later completed a J.D. at California Western School of Law. The combination of social science and law shapes how he examines facts and frames questions in court.
He began his legal career in public defense. In 2003 he joined the Colorado Defender’s Office as a criminal defense lawyer. That period grounded him in courtroom procedure and the pressures of trial work. In 2007 he left the Defender’s Office to establish his own firm, Shazam Kianpour & Associates, P.C. He has since handled matters in both state and federal venues.
Kianpour is licensed to practice in Colorado and holds credentials to appear before federal court. He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and is certified for practice in the Colorado Federal District Court. Those credentials allow him to carry cases from state arraignments through federal litigation.
His practice centers on criminal defense and related litigation. He represents clients at pretrial proceedings, trials, and post-conviction matters. He draws on courtroom experience that dates back to his years at the public defender’s office. He also accepts federal cases and has managed filings and hearings in the District of Colorado.
Professional membership has been a steady part of his career. He has been a member of the Colorado Criminal Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, and the Denver Bar Association since 2007. He also holds membership in the U.S. District Court District of Colorado from 2007 onward. Earlier in his career he was a member of the American Bar Association from 2002 to 2005 and has been affiliated with the American Association for Justice since 2004.
Outside the courtroom he has been involved in veterans’ outreach. Since 2008 he has worked with the Denver and Aurora Veterans Affairs organizations on charitable contributions and on organizing WBOD events. Those activities have connected him to service members and to local veterans’ services.
He leads Shazam Kianpour & Associates, P.C., a practice he founded in 2007. He continues to handle criminal and federal cases in Colorado courts. His current practice focuses on defending clients in state and federal criminal matters and related litigation.
