About Shane Michael
Shane Michael Childers earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan–Flint before moving on to Regent University School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 2008. His legal education combined a Midwestern undergraduate experience with a law degree from Virginia, giving him a foundation that spans regional perspectives on law and practice.
After law school Childers built a practice that includes appearances before military appellate tribunals as well as state courts. He is admitted to practice before the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. He also holds licenses in Wisconsin and Michigan. Those admissions signal steady engagement with appellate procedure and matters that arise under both military and civilian law.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in court filings and attentive to appellate standards. He has worked in environments that require precise legal writing and strict adherence to procedural timelines. That background is common among lawyers who litigate on appeal, where rulings often turn on record review and doctrinal analysis rather than new witness testimony.
Childers is associated with the firm Rickard Denney Garno & Leichliter. At the firm he has been involved in cases that traverse the intersections of state law and military justice, drawing on his authorizations to appear before the federal military appellate courts. He has handled filings and oral argument preparation that reflect the particular demands of appellate advocacy.
Clients and peers note his steady courtroom demeanor. He favors clear briefs and thorough record assembly. He prepares for argument with an eye toward the standards of review that appellate panels apply. That preparation shapes how he frames issues and selects the authorities to present.
Outside the courtroom, Childers keeps up with continuing legal education tied to appellate practice and military law topics. He maintains active bar memberships in the states where he is licensed and remains available to serve in matters that require admission to the federal military appellate benches.
He currently practices at Rickard Denney Garno & Leichliter and focuses his work on appellate litigation in military and state courts.
