Sebastian M. Norton earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Tulane University in 2007 and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2011. His academic path combined the close reading and argumentation of a liberal arts program with law school training. Classrooms in New Orleans shaped his early approach to courtroom work and legal research.
He began his legal career as a law clerk in 2010 at the United States Lawyers Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. That experience introduced him to federal procedure and the pace of trial courts. In 2012 he joined Bartoli Cain Law, PLLC as an associate lawyer, handling matters that required both litigation drafting and client-facing advocacy. In 2015 he opened The Norton Firm, LLC and took on the responsibilities of firm ownership alongside case work.
Norton is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and in Virginia. He has been active in state and local bar groups since the early 2010s. He holds memberships in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Alexandria and Fairfax bar associations dating to 2012, and he has been a member of the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2015.
