About Sean
Sean Olender built his legal foundation in California. He earned a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1993, then moved on to the University of San Diego School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 1997. Those years in school shaped his approach to both litigation and the classroom.
He entered private practice in 1998 and has maintained a steady legal presence since then. Early in his career he established a practice under his own name, Olender, and has handled a range of matters for individual and business clients. Over time he added teaching to his professional life, returning to the University of San Diego School of Law as an adjunct professor in 2013.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic and direct. He balances courtroom work with counseling clients outside litigation. His cases have required attention to detail and an ability to explain complicated issues in plain language. That combination is what led the law school to invite him back as an adjunct, where he taught students about practical advocacy and the realities of practice.
Teaching, for him, is an extension of practice. In the classroom he emphasizes case preparation, procedural rules and client communication. Students who have worked with him note a hands-on approach. He brings examples from his own files and stresses courtroom preparedness over theory alone.
In his private practice, he has handled a variety of civil matters. He approaches each file methodically, assembling facts and testing them through discovery and motion work when necessary. He has represented clients in hearings and trials, and he spends considerable time on negotiating settlements when that proves the better option for the client.
Outside of court and the classroom, he remains tied to the rhythms of the regional legal community where he trained. He continues to update his practice to reflect changes in procedure and law. He keeps a steady schedule of client work while mentoring younger lawyers who join his office.
He currently practices at Olender, combining client representation with periodic teaching at the University of San Diego School of Law. He focuses his current practice on client representation and legal instruction.
