About Hilary
Hilary Weddell built a career that moves between the classroom and the courtroom. She brings an academic eye to litigation and a practical sensibility to teaching. Her path runs from San Jose State to Boston College Law School, then into private practice and legal education.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration–Management from San Jose State University in 2008. She went on to Boston College Law School, completing her J.D. in 2013. While in law school she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Boston College Journal of Law & Social Justice, a role that placed her at the center of debates on law and public policy.
Early legal work included a 2011 internship at NetCracker and a 2012 litigation law clerk position at Donoghue, Barrett & Singal. Those experiences introduced her to adversary work and case preparation. After law school she moved into private practice and into federal court filings, building a litigation practice that expanded over the next decade.
In 2016 she took on a parallel role in legal education as a Professor of Law at Lincoln Law School of San Jose. Students knew her for practical assignments and for bringing real-world litigation issues into the classroom. She has balanced teaching responsibilities alongside courtroom work rather than treating either as merely ancillary to the other.
In 2020 she became a partner at McManis Faulkner. At the firm she has handled civil litigation matters in both state and federal courts. She is admitted to practice in California and is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Her docket reflects a mix of trial preparation, motion practice and appellate filings.
She maintains ties to the profession through membership in the William A. Ingram Inn of Court and through other professional memberships she has held since 2013. Those connections keep her engaged with developments in litigation practice and judicial procedure.
Weddell balances classroom instruction, editorial experience and active litigation. Her work spans case intake through appellate briefing, and she continues to represent clients in state and federal courts as a partner at McManis Faulkner.
