About Scott L.
Scott L. Puro built his legal foundation at Rutgers. He earned a B.A. from Rutgers College in 1994 and stayed in the Rutgers system to complete his J.D. at Rutgers School of Law–Camden in 1998. Those years in New Jersey higher education framed his early interest in courtroom practice and state-level procedure.
After law school he entered private practice and rose to partnership at Backes & Hill, L.L.P. He handles civil litigation and trial work for clients across several jurisdictions. Puro is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. His courtroom experience is reflected in his certification as a Civil Trial Lawyer by the New Jersey Supreme Court, a credential that recognizes experience and peer review in trial practice.
He maintains active memberships in a number of bar associations and community organizations. He belongs to the Pennsylvania State Bar, the New Jersey State Bar and the District of Columbia State Bar. Locally, he is a member of the Mercer County Bar Association. Outside the bar, he serves as a trustee for the United Way of Greater Mercer County and for Friends of the State Library. He also holds membership in the Better Business Bureau. These roles place him inside professional and civic networks that overlap legal, business and nonprofit sectors.
Colleagues describe him as someone who moves between office preparation and courtroom presentation. He prepares pleadings and evidence, and he stands for hearings and jury trials when the case requires it. At Backes & Hill, L.L.P. he shares responsibility for managing litigation strategy and client relationships. He represents individuals and organizations in matters that require close attention to procedural detail and trial readiness.
Puro’s career path reflects steady involvement in litigation and professional organizations over time. He remains active in multiple state bars and in community boards that connect legal practice to public programs. He works across state lines in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. He concentrates his practice on civil litigation and trial work.
