About Scott
Scott Fortas began his legal training after completing undergraduate studies in political science. He earned a B.S. from the University of Arizona in 1991 and went on to receive his J.D. from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School in 1995. Those classroom years gave him a foundation in legal research and advocacy that shaped the early steps of his career.
He entered private practice at the end of the 1990s. In 1999 he worked as an attorney at Krohn and Moss, Ltd., where he handled matters for the firm and gained front-line experience in client representation. The next decade brought a turn toward leadership. In 2007 he opened and served as the managing lawyer of the Fortas Law Group, overseeing case management and daily operations while representing clients in state courts.
Fortas moved into a partnership role in 2018 when he joined Hawkins Spizman Fortas as a partner. That position expanded his responsibilities. He took on higher-stakes litigation and the coordination of complex matters across multiple cases. He has practiced in Georgia courts and before the Georgia Court of Appeals, reflecting a career that includes trial-level representation and appellate work.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who prefers direct handling of cases and steady, methodical work in court. He approaches pleadings, motion practice and oral argument in a practical manner. He has managed teams and supervised associates while remaining involved in the substantive legal work on client files.
Clients and opposing counsel see him most often in contested proceedings where careful preparation matters. His background includes both the operational side of running a small firm and the collaborative demands of partnership in a larger practice. That range has influenced how he allocates resources and plans litigation strategies.
He remains active in the legal community in Georgia and continues to appear before state tribunals. His current work centers on litigation and appellate matters in Georgia courts, including proceedings before the Georgia Court of Appeals.
