About Scott E.
Scott E. Atwood built a legal path that moves from classrooms in New England to courtrooms in the Southeast. He combines academic study of history with decades of bar leadership and private practice.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College, earning a B.A. in history in 1990. He continued graduate work at the College of William and Mary and received an M.A. in history in 1991. He then turned to law and graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1995.
After law school Atwood entered practice in the Southeast and is admitted to practice in both Florida and Georgia. Over the years he has worked on a range of matters that exposed him to courtroom procedures, client counseling and the administrative side of employment disputes.
Public service within the bar has been a consistent part of Atwood’s career. He served on the Florida Bar’s Board of Governors from 2006 to 2008 and led the Young Lawyers Division as its president during 2007–2008. He later joined the Executive Council of the Florida Bar’s Labor & Employment Section in 2010 and continues in that role. He also chaired the Solo & Small Firm Section of the Atlanta Bar Association from 2010 to 2011. In 2015 he took on a leadership position in the Lee County Bar Association as president-elect, a role listed as continuing.
Those roles reflect a mix of practice and policy work. Colleagues note that his bar involvement has involved rule work, programming for practitioners and mentoring younger lawyers. His time on both state and local bar bodies has spanned governance, committee work and section programming.
Atwood maintains a presence in Atlanta and operates from a main office as well. His caseload has included employment-related disputes and other civil matters across Florida and Georgia. He has balanced private practice and volunteer leadership in professional organizations for much of his career.
He currently practices labor and employment law.
