About Sarah
Sarah Patras built her legal foundation at Iowa State University, where she earned a B.A. in political science and communication studies in 2012. She continued her studies at the University of Richmond School of Law and received her J.D. in 2016. The sequence of degrees set a clear path toward courtroom work and client representation.
Her early career began in the judicial system. In 2016 she served as a judicial law clerk for the Buchanan County Circuit Court in Grundy, Virginia. That yearlong clerkship introduced her to trial procedure, opinion drafting, and the day-to-day mechanics of a circuit court. The experience offered a practical complement to law school and helped shape how she approaches written and oral advocacy.
After the clerkship she moved into private practice. In 2017 Patras joined Livesay & Myers, P.C. as an associate lawyer. Her role expanded over the next several years and in 2022 she was promoted to senior associate. During that time she handled matters that required appearances in Virginia state courts and in federal forums where she holds admission, including the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Fourth Circuit.
Outside the office she has been active in local and state bar organizations. She is a member of the Richmond Bar Association and the Virginia Bar Association, both since 2016. She joined the Metro Richmond Family Law Bar Association in 2017 and has been a member of the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association since 2018. Earlier memberships include the Metro Richmond Women’s Bar Association and the Virginia Equality Bar Association, which she joined in 2015. Those affiliations connect her to peers across a range of practice areas and to continuing legal education programs.
Colleagues describe Patras as methodical in court filings and steady at the lectern. Her path from a small circuit clerkship to a senior associate position at a regional firm mirrors the trajectory of many attorneys who combine judicial insight with courtroom practice. She has experience preparing briefs, conducting hearings, and coordinating filings across state and federal dockets.
She remains based at Livesay & Myers, P.C., where she represents clients in Virginia courts and in the federal courts where she is admitted, including the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Fourth Circuit.
