About Samuel B.
Samuel B. Edwards built his academic foundation at public universities and later deepened his study of securities law in Washington, D.C. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and Government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998, then a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 2001. After several years in practice he returned to school and completed an LL.M. in Securities Law & Financial Regulation at Georgetown University Law Center in 2015.
His legal career has been centered at Shepherd Smith Edwards & Kantas, LLP, where he became a partner in 2001. He has handled matters across multiple forums over the years. He is admitted to practice in Texas, Michigan and California, and he is credentialed to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He also holds admissions in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Texas and for the Central District of California.
Edwards’s training and admissions have aligned closely with the work he does. After the LL.M. that concentrated on securities and financial regulation, he increasingly handled securities arbitration, investor claims and regulatory defense. He has represented investors and industry participants in FINRA arbitrations and litigated disputes in federal court. He also advises clients on compliance and post-claim dispute resolution.
Professional involvement has been a steady part of his career. He has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 2001 and joined the Public Investors Arbitration Association in 2002. Those memberships reflect an ongoing engagement with both bar governance and the community that handles securities arbitration.
Colleagues describe his courtroom work as direct and methodical. He prepares cases for arbitration hearings and for trial, and he files appeals when necessary. His practice spans fact-intensive disputes and technical regulatory questions. He often works on matters that require coordinating filings in different federal districts or on appeal in the Fifth Circuit.
Edwards maintains an office at Shepherd Smith Edwards & Kantas, LLP and practices from the firm’s multiple locations. He continues to handle securities arbitration, investor litigation and related regulatory matters in state and federal courts and arbitration forums.
