About Rory Gene
Rory Gene Safir practices law in Florida, where he combines trial work and firm leadership. He built a foundation in philosophy at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, earning a B.A. in 2009. He later attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law and pursued advanced study abroad, completing an LL.M. in International and European Business Law at Universidad Pontificia Comillas.
After finishing his legal education, Safir entered public service. He joined the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office as an assistant public defender in 2019. That role put him in court early and often. He handled arraignments, motions and jury trials for clients facing criminal charges. The experience shaped his approach to trial work and client advocacy.
In 2021 he moved into private practice. He held associate positions at Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. and at Barnett, Kirkwood, Koche, Long & Foster, P.A. Those years broadened his civil and criminal litigation exposure. In 2022 he worked as a trial lawyer at Rinaldo Law Group. The following year he founded Safir Injury & Criminal Defense Law and became its managing partner and lead trial lawyer.
Safir’s courtroom background is matched by training in DWI detection. He holds a DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing certification from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That credential informs how he approaches impaired driving cases and related evidentiary issues. He is also active in professional groups. He is a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Pinellas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also belongs to the American Association for Justice, the Florida Justice Association and the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association.
Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who litigates in both criminal and civil settings. He draws on public defender experience in criminal defense trials and on private-practice work in personal injury matters. Safir manages a small firm that handles criminal charges and injury claims across Florida. He continues to try cases and to oversee litigation at Safir Injury & Criminal Defense Law, where his practice centers on criminal defense and personal injury work.
