About Ronald W.

Ronald W. Hillberg trained as an economist before turning to law. He built a practice around the legal and financial issues that affect older adults and families planning for the future.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University in 1974 and completed his law degree at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1977. Those academic years set the stage for a career that blends tax, probate and elder law matters.

Hillberg is admitted to practice in California and before federal forums, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Tax Court. His courtroom admissions reflect a practice that has touched on appeals and tax controversies as well as trial- and administrative-level matters.

He holds professional certifications that underscore his concentration in estate and elder law. The State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization has recognized him as a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Law. He is also a Certified Elder Law Attorney through the National Elder Law Foundation. Those credentials indicate additional training and testing beyond standard licensure.

Over the years Hillberg has kept active in professional circles focused on aging and legal issues. He has been a member of NEALA since 1993 and maintains connections with colleagues who practice in related fields. That involvement has kept him current on developments in elder law, Medicaid planning and trustee duties.

Colleagues describe his work as steady and detail-oriented. He has worked on matters that cross tax and probate lines, advising clients on how taxation, trust administration and guardianship issues can interact. He often handles the planning documents and court filings that families need when an estate is being transferred or when care needs must be legally addressed.

Hillberg practices in California, handling matters that require both technical tax knowledge and attention to the daily realities families face. He serves clients on estate planning, probate and trust administration, and elder law issues. He currently focuses his practice on estate planning, probate and trust matters and elder law.
