About Cory B.

Cory B. Chartrand entered law school after completing an undergraduate degree in international relations at Brigham Young University. He graduated from BYU in 1990 with a minor in German and went on to earn a Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1993. During law school he took part in the International Moot Court and spent time in the International Law Program at the University of Salzburg, Austria, experiences that broadened his exposure to cross-border legal issues and comparative law.

He began his legal career in 1993 as a litigation lawyer at Thayer, Harvey & Gregerson. Those early years were spent in court and in the preparation that precedes trial work. He handled civil litigation matters and built practical skills in case preparation, discovery, and courtroom procedure. The position gave him a foundation in adversarial practice and the realities of managing contested matters for clients.

In 2001 Chartrand became a shareholder at Triebsch & Frampton, APC. As a shareholder he took on greater responsibility for case strategy and for supervising litigation teams. His role combined casework with firm-level responsibilities, and he remained active in managing complex files and guiding more junior attorneys through litigation tasks and courtroom practice.

In 2019 he moved to an of counsel role at Fores Macko Johnston. That transition reflected a change in how he engaged with client matters and colleagues. In the of counsel capacity he has been called on for case evaluations, appellate matters, and mentoring lawyers in trial preparation. The title also allowed him to balance continued courtroom involvement with consultative work on difficult legal problems.

Chartrand’s academic background in international relations and his study in Austria add a dimension to his practice. He speaks to international legal concepts and has a familiarity with German language and culture from his undergraduate studies. Those elements inform how he approaches cases that touch on cross-border or comparative issues, and they enrich his perspective on litigation strategy.

He is admitted to practice law in California and maintains an active role in private practice. As of 2026 he serves as of counsel at Fores Macko Johnston and practices in California, handling litigation and related dispute work.
