About Roger H.
Roger H. Taft began an academic path that combined liberal arts, international study and law. He graduated from Williams College in 1970, earned a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in 1971, and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1974. Those credentials underpin a long career that reaches into both state and federal courts.
Taft built his practice through courtroom work and firm leadership. He serves as a partner at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton, where he has been part of litigated matters that require appearances in a range of jurisdictions. The partner title reflects a senior role at the firm and regular involvement in case strategy, client counsel and court appearances.
He is admitted to practice in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York, and holds admissions to several federal district courts, including the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, the Northern District of New York, the Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania, the Western District of Pennsylvania, and the Northern District of Illinois. Taft also holds admissions to multiple federal appellate jurisdictions, including the Second, Third and Sixth Circuits, and he is admitted to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions allow him to handle matters across trial and appellate levels.
Membership in professional organizations has been a steady feature of his career. He is a member of the Pennsylvania State Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Erie County Bar Association, the New York Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Those memberships connect him to state and regional legal communities and to wider networks of practice and ethics.
Taft’s educational background in international affairs gives him a broader legal perspective on matters that touch multiple jurisdictions. He brings that perspective to cases that involve federal procedure, appellate practice and inter-state legal questions. His work requires navigating differing court rules and procedural frameworks, drafting appellate briefs and representing clients at hearings.
Colleagues and clients encounter an attorney who combines decades of experience with familiarity across federal and state systems. In his current role at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton he handles matters in federal and state courts across Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
