About Robert W. Leonard
Robert W. Leonard Jr. earned his J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1975 and began a long career in Texas law and public service soon after. He joined the bar the same year and built a practice that has moved between private firms and public responsibilities.
Early in his career Leonard served in the Texas House of Representatives. In 1979 he chaired several committees, including the Committee on Public Safety and the Workers’ Compensation Subcommittee. He also led an interim panel on health care for low-income Texans and held leadership roles on appropriations, state affairs and labor and employment matters. Those years gave him direct experience with legislative process and public-policy debates.
On the private side Leonard worked as of counsel at Cantey and Hanger in Austin in 1988 and then continued in private practice the following year. He was an associate at Hanna-Leonard PLLC in 1997. Over decades he has acted as counsel in a variety of settings, handling cases and advising clients across family law and related areas. His professional timeline reflects steady practice in Texas courts and an ongoing presence in the legal community.
Leonard became board certified in family law through the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2002. He is also a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar College, a status he has held since 1994, and has served as a mentor since 2002. Those credentials sit alongside long-standing membership in the bar dating back to 1975. The combination of legislative experience and courtroom practice has informed his approach to family law matters.
Today Leonard practices at Bob Leonard Law Group, PLLC, where he is identified as a board certified family law lawyer. His work ranges across divorce, custody, and related proceedings. He continues to maintain active membership in state legal organizations and participates in mentoring newer lawyers. He currently focuses his practice on family law matters in Texas.
