About Robert

Robert Maher took an unconventional path to law. He earned a B.S. in biology, with a minor in chemistry, from Virginia Tech in 1996. He stayed at Virginia Tech for graduate work and completed a master’s program in endocrinology in 2000. After several years grounded in the biological sciences, he returned to school and earned his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2016, where he concentrated his studies in intellectual property.

The shift from lab bench to courtroom came with a steady pivot toward intellectual property issues. During law school he studied patent and trademark matters and prepared for practice that bridges technical subject matter and legal doctrine. That technical background informs how he reads patents and evaluates scientific evidence. It also shapes how he prepares technical experts and argues claim construction and validity questions.

Maher joined Intellectual Property Partners P.C. and rose to partner in 2017. He is admitted to practice in Missouri and in several federal jurisdictions, including the Federal Circuit, the D.C. Circuit and the Eighth Circuit. Those admissions reflect a practice that includes appellate work as well as district-court litigation. At the firm he has handled contested matters that require interpreting patent specification language, assessing infringement theories and addressing trademark disputes.

Colleagues and opposing counsel will find an attorney who blends scientific training with courtroom experience. He maintains memberships in several professional organizations relevant to IP practice. He has belonged to the American Intellectual Property Law Association since 2014, and to the International Trademark Association since 2015. He is also a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan Saint Louis since 2013. Those affiliations keep him engaged with evolving practice rules and emerging issues in trademark and patent law.

Maher’s work is rooted in technical analysis and procedural detail. He prepares clients for hearings and appeals, oversees patent prosecution strategy when needed, and coordinates factual and expert development for litigation. Statements in court and filings emphasize claim language, prior art evaluation and procedural posture. He currently practices intellectual property law at Intellectual Property Partners P.C., handling patent and trademark litigation as well as appellate matters.
