About Julia

Julia Lang built a legal education that tracked from the Midwest to the Pacific Northwest. She earned a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis in 2008, a J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2012, and later completed an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology Law at Washington University School of Law in 2017. While at Seattle University she also completed a Tribal Government Business Law Certificate through the Center for Indian Law and Policy.

Her early legal work began in private practice. In 2012 she joined Patterson Buchanan Fobes & Leitch P.C., and two years later she moved to HeplerBroom LLC. She launched the Law Office of Julia M. Lang, LLC in 2016, operating under her own firm name for a period before joining Carmody MacDonald P.C. in 2019. Those moves reflect a steady accumulation of hands-on experience across different firm environments and practice settings.

Intellectual property has been the throughline of her career. She holds an advanced degree in IP and has been active in organizations tied to that field since the mid-2010s. She joined the American Intellectual Property Law Association in 2016 and is a member of the Washington State Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section since 2012. Her roles in professional groups extend to leadership positions. She has served as Vice Chair of the Missouri Bar’s Intellectual Property Law Committee since 2020, and she took on the Vice Chair role for the ABA Intellectual Property Law Section’s Trademark Practice & Policy Committee in 2021. In 2022 she became a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Her practice blends trademark work, policy matters and issues that arise at the intersection of IP and business on tribal lands. That blend reflects her formal training plus the committee work she has pursued over the last decade. Colleagues cite her committee roles as evidence of steady involvement in developing trademark policy and in engaging with professional peers on evolving IP questions.

Lang holds licenses in Washington and Missouri and maintains memberships in both state and national bar groups. She continues to participate in committee work and professional organizations while practicing at an institutional firm rather than as a solo practitioner. She currently practices at Carmody MacDonald P.C., handling intellectual property and trademark matters as well as related policy and tribal business issues.
