About Robert Louis
Robert Louis Mellinger brings four decades of courtroom and counseling experience to a practice that spans state and federal venues. He earned his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1978 after completing a B.A. in psychology and political science at Washington & Jefferson College in 1974. Those early academic choices set a pragmatic tone for a career spent handling complex legal matters across jurisdictions.
After law school, Mellinger built a practice that crosses state lines. He is admitted to practice in California, New York, Pennsylvania and Florida, and he is also admitted to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. That multi-jurisdictional standing has allowed him to represent clients in a variety of matters that require navigation of differing state procedures and federal thresholds. He has worked in private practice for most of his career and has experience collaborating with colleagues on matters that move between trial courts and higher appellate forums.
His work has involved litigation, client counseling and transactional matters. He has represented individuals and businesses. He has handled cases that required careful preparation for trial and appeals. Colleagues describe him as methodical in his preparation and deliberate in courtroom presentation. He favors clear explanation over technical flourish and tends to focus on the practical implications of legal strategy for clients.
Mellinger maintains active memberships in professional associations and bar groups. He has participated in bar activities that bring together lawyers across disciplines, and he has engaged with peers from multiple states to stay current on developing law. Outside of legal organizations he has drawn on his undergraduate background in psychology and political science to shape how he approaches client communication and case theory.
Today he practices through ROBERT L. MELLINGER, P.A./CASERTA & SPIRITI, PLLC. His office handles matters that range from contested litigation to transactional questions and appellate work. He continues to take cases that require admission across state lines or before federal courts. His current practice focuses on litigation and appellate representation for clients in state and federal courts.
