About Robert
Robert Dunn earned his Bachelor of Arts from Claremont McKenna College in 1999. He went on to attend the University of Chicago Law School, where he received his J.D. in 2010 after beginning studies in 2007. Those years set the stage for a career that moved quickly into the federal appellate world.
He began his post-law-school training in the Ninth Circuit, clerking for Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain in 2010. The following years brought a seat at the Supreme Court, where he served as a law clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas in 2012. Those experiences placed him inside the appellate process at its highest levels and exposed him to complex legal issues across a range of areas.
After his clerkships, Dunn entered private practice. He joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher as a senior associate in 2013. At Gibson Dunn he worked among teams handling federal court matters and appeals. In 2021 he became a partner at Eimer Stahl LLP. The move marked a transition to firm leadership and gave him responsibility for guiding significant litigation matters.
Dunn is admitted to practice in California and before multiple federal courts and appellate circuits. His credentials list the Ninth, Sixth, and Third Circuits, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California. That array of admissions aligns with his appellate clerkships and years in federal litigation practice.
He joined the California State Bar in 2011 and remains an active member. That membership has supported his work in state and federal matters and provides the licensing foundation for work across California’s district courts.
Colleagues describe him as someone who knows the mechanics of appellate briefing and the pacing of federal litigation. He has frequently handled work that requires coordinated filings across district courts and circuit dockets. His resume reflects an emphasis on arguments at the appellate level and on litigation that travels through the federal court system.
Today he practices at Eimer Stahl LLP, where he handles litigation and appellate matters in federal courts and before appellate panels.
