About Robert Chip
Robert Chip Lane trained for law after an early career in higher education administration. He earned a B.A. in International Business from Rhodes College in 1998 and a J.D. from the University of Miami in 2004. Those years framed an interest in institutional operations and the legal questions that touch business and property.
Lane began his professional life at Rhodes College as Senior Assistant Director of Admissions. That role lasted until he moved toward law. In 2003 he worked as a legal intern at Stearns, Weaver, Miller, Weissler, Alhadeff & Sitterson, PA while completing law school. After graduation he joined Doyle, Restrepo, Harvin & Robbins in 2004 and spent the next several years in private practice, including a stint at Johnson, Spalding, Doyle, West & Trent in 2007.
He took on leadership roles relatively early. In 2009 he became a managing partner at Middagh & Lane, PLLC. Five years later he founded and became managing partner of The Lane Law Office, PLLC. That firm role has defined his day-to-day work in the last decade.
Lane is authorized to practice in both Texas and Georgia. He is active in professional and industry groups that reflect the scope of his work. He holds memberships in the State Bar of Texas sections for Real Estate, Probate and Trust, and for Consumer and Commercial Law, and he is part of the State Bar's Insurance Law Section. He joined the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the Houston Trial Lawyers Association in 2013. He has been a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation since 2011.
His affiliations extend into trade and local organizations. He is a member of the Houston Apartment Association, and he holds associate memberships in several roofing trade groups including the Houston Area Roofing Contractors Association and the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. He also spent several years in the Windstorm Insurance Network and has served on committees for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
Those ties shape the kinds of matters that come through his office. His work typically involves disputes and transactions that touch real estate, insurance, consumer and commercial law, and construction-related concerns. He handles litigation and counseling for individual and industry clients, and his practice often intersects property and insurance issues.
Since 2014 he has led The Lane Law Office, PLLC as managing partner. He divides his time between courtroom work, legal counseling and organizational engagement. He concentrates on civil litigation, insurance and real estate matters.
