About Richard T.
Richard T. Elrod trained in the Midwest. He earned a B.A. from Ripon College in 1990 and a J.D. from Marquette University Law School in 1994. Those years formed the foundation for a long-running legal career rooted in Wisconsin courts and the federal benches that serve the region.
After law school, Elrod built a practice that spans state and federal jurisdictions. He is admitted to the Wisconsin bar and to the United States District Court, including the Eastern District. He works as a lawyer at Herrling Clark Law Office Ltd., appearing in state trial courts and in federal proceedings when a case requires it. He also serves as a part-time court commissioner for the Outagamie County Circuit Court, a post that keeps him connected to day-to-day judicial work.
Elrod has kept active in professional organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Association for Justice. He is a member of the Outagamie County Bar Association. He is a current member of the District Committee for the Office of Lawyer Regulation and has served three terms on that committee. Outside the bar, he participates in community service through the Fox Cities Salvation Army, where he sits on the advisory board and has served as its president.
His courtroom work reflects that mix of local and federal practice. He handles civil litigation matters, representing clients in contested hearings and trials. He brings the procedural knowledge required in state court and the additional rules that govern federal practice. His role as a court commissioner also puts him in a position to handle preliminary matters and to assist the court with motions and calendaring that affect litigants directly.
Colleagues and clients see him in multiple offices of his firm. Herrling Clark maintains an Oshkosh office, as well as locations in Green Bay and Appleton, where he meets with clients and prepares cases. He balances courtroom appearances, administrative duties at the county court level, and involvement in professional governance.
The arc of his career shows steady involvement in both legal practice and local legal institutions. He continues to maintain an active practice at Herrling Clark Law Office Ltd., handling civil litigation and related matters at the firm’s Oshkosh, Green Bay and Appleton offices.
