Richard Kim studied international affairs before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine in 2004, and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of San Diego School of Law in 2009. Those academic years set the stage for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.
Early in his career he worked in municipal and district offices, serving at the San Diego District Lawyer's Office and the Los Angeles City Lawyer's Office.
