About Richard

Richard Kim studied international affairs before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine in 2004, and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of San Diego School of Law in 2009. Those academic years set the stage for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.

Early in his career he worked in municipal and district offices, serving at the San Diego District Lawyer's Office and the Los Angeles City Lawyer's Office. Those roles exposed him to government litigation and the practical side of public law. He later moved into private practice, joining Albertson Law as an associate and taking on a broader civil caseload.

Today he is a lawyer at KW Law Group. His path through government offices and a private firm gave him familiarity with both courtroom procedure and agency processes. He is admitted to practice in California and is authorized to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. That combination of state and federal credentials shapes the matters he accepts and the courts where he appears.

Kim is active in the legal community beyond his casework. He sits on the board of the Orange County Korean American Bar Association, a role that connects him with other Korean American attorneys in the region and with local legal outreach efforts. He maintains professional contacts across municipal and private practice circles.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and practical in preparing for hearings and filings, and as someone who sizes up procedural risks early in a matter. He brings that approach to both trial-level work and appellate filings. His experience at municipal offices gives him a familiarity with governmental procedures, while his time in private practice sharpened his handling of depositions and discovery.

Kim maintains offices in Irvine and Diamond Bar. He manages cases that involve state-court litigation and matters that may proceed to the Ninth Circuit. He appears in court for clients and handles the written work that federal and state proceedings demand. His current practice includes litigation in state and federal courts, with appearances in the Ninth Circuit.
