About Richard J McKyton
Richard J McKyton P.A. built a legal career that began in courtrooms and evolved into private practice. He read political science at the University of Florida, finishing his undergraduate degree in 1992. He then turned to law, earning his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 1993. Those early years set the pace for a steady, decades-long presence in Florida's legal community.
After law school he entered public service. In 1995 he joined the State Lawyer's Office for the Sixth Judicial Circuit as an Assistant State Lawyer. That role placed him in the day-to-day work of the circuit and gave him courtroom experience early in his professional life. He moved to private practice in the late 1990s, joining the firm Abbey, Adams, Byelick, Kiernan, Mueller and Lancaster, LLP in 1998. There he worked alongside other litigators and gained exposure to the procedures and pressures of firm life.
In 2001 he began practicing under the name McKyton Law. Over the years he has maintained a presence in Florida's bar, listed as a licensed lawyer of the Florida Bar. His resume shows a progression from public defender-style work to firm practice and then to his own practice, a path familiar to many who want both courtroom time and independent client work.
Colleagues and clients describe his approach as practical. He favors clear explanations in plain language and steady preparation before hearings. He is a lawyer who spent substantial time in both institutional and private settings, and that experience informs how he prepares cases and manages client expectations. He is comfortable in state courts, where much of his career has unfolded.
Outside of the courtroom his background in political science and his Stetson law training remain touchstones. They inform how he reads statutes and interprets procedural rules. He has practiced continuously in Florida since the 1990s, adapting as local practice and court procedures changed.
Today he operates McKyton Law and continues to practice in Florida. He remains active in courtroom work and client representation, handling matters across state courts in Florida.
