About Richard
Richard Grungo earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Saint Joseph’s University in 1990 and a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Newark in 1995. He took a conventional path into civil litigation after law school, building a practice that emphasizes courtroom work and jury trials. He draws on his academic background in psychology when preparing witnesses and framing cases for juries.
Early in his career Grungo concentrated on personal injury and civil trial matters. Over time he expanded the scope of his work to include complex plaintiff-side litigation. He has argued motions, tried cases and handled negotiations that required close attention to both the factual record and trial tactics. Colleagues say he prefers a straightforward approach at trial: clear themes, direct examination and an eye for testimony that will resonate with jurors.
Grungo’s professional recognitions reflect his trial orientation. His listings include Super Lawyers’ Super Lawyer and Rising Star honors, SJ Magazine’s Top Personal Injury Lawyer, Top Trial Lawyer and Awesome Lawyer distinctions, and a 40 Under 40 feature in the New Jersey Law Journal. He also holds certification as a Civil Trial Lawyer from the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Lawyer Certification, an accreditation that denotes specialized competence in civil trial practice.
He maintains memberships in several regional legal associations. Those groups include the New Jersey Association for Justice, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and frequently appears in state and federal courts in the region.
Grungo is a part of the trial team at Grungo Colarulo, where he continues to handle plaintiff-side civil litigation. His docket includes a mix of personal injury matters and other cases that proceed to trial. He spends much of his time preparing evidence, taking and defending depositions, and presenting cases to juries. He currently practices civil trial and personal injury law at Grungo Colarulo.
