About Ricardo
Ricardo Tapia built his legal foundation in Puerto Rico. He earned a B.A. in Justice Systems from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in 2001 and completed his J.D. at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico in 2011. The timeline of those degrees frames a career that moved quickly from supportive legal work into attorney roles and then into private practice.
He began at Cemex as a senior paralegal in 2005. That early work gave him exposure to corporate processes and compliance issues. After law school he returned to Cemex as corporate and compliance counsel in 2012, handling internal controls, regulatory matters and contracts. The shift from paralegal to counsel reflects a steady climb through client-facing and internal advisory tasks.
By 2016 Tapia had moved into immigration law. He worked for YMCA International Services and then for Gonzalez Olivieri, LLC., where he handled client intake, applications and case preparation in immigration matters. The next year he launched his own practice. In 2017 he founded Global Partners Law Office and has led the firm since. The move to found a firm marked a transition to managing both legal work and the practical demands of running an office.
Tapia is admitted in Puerto Rico and holds membership in the United States Supreme Court Bar and the Fifth Circuit. His bar affiliations include the Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico (member since 2012), the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Fifth Circuit Bar Association, both joined in 2017. He maintains current memberships in those bodies and practices in federal and territorial venues as appropriate.
His experience crosses corporate compliance and immigration. At Cemex he dealt with internal governance and contract issues. In the immigration roles he handled applications, client counseling and procedural work that often involves interaction with federal agencies and courts. The combination of corporate and immigration experience gives him a practical sense of regulatory detail and procedural requirements in different settings.
Colleagues and clients see him as a practitioner who draws on years of on-the-ground casework. He runs Global Partners Law Office out of Puerto Rico, and the firm accepts matters tied to immigration proceedings and related federal filings. He is an active member of bar organizations that relate to both appellate practice and immigration law. He currently handles immigration cases including deportation defense, naturalization matters and federal immigration litigation at Global Partners Law Office.
