About Reid
Reid Thompson built a career that moves between patrol lines, detective work and the courtroom. He began his professional journey as a police officer and later trained at the FBI National Academy before turning to law school.
Thompson completed a Bachelor of Arts in history at the University of Georgia in 1988. He later graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2000, an experience that deepened his investigative training. He earned his J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law in 2002.
He joined the Fulton County Police Department in 1991. Over the course of his time there he served as a patrol officer, worked as a detective in the Major Case Division and rose to the rank of lieutenant. Those years on the street and in homicide-level investigations gave him early exposure to complex criminal inquiries and evidence handling.
After moving from law enforcement into legal practice, Thompson served as an assistant district lawyer in Douglas County in 2005. He took a similar role in 2007 at the Fulton County District Lawyer s Office. Those positions placed him on the prosecutorial side of criminal cases and offered courtroom experience from the government perspective.
In 2009 he launched his own practice, Reid Thompson, LLC. He has since worked in private practice in Georgia. His background combines front-line investigative work, Major Case Division experience and time in district lawyer offices, which inform how he evaluates cases and prepares for trial.
Thompson maintains memberships in several local and statewide legal and law enforcement organizations. He is active in the Atlanta Bar Association and the Cobb County Bar Association. He also belongs to the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and to the F.B.I. National Academy Associates, reflecting an ongoing connection to both legal practice and investigative training.
Across roles as an officer, prosecutor and private attorney, Thompson has handled multiple facets of criminal justice. He currently practices criminal law in Georgia.
