About Rebecca Lynne
Rebecca Lynne Melone grew up around horses and the rhythms of stable life. That early interest found its way into a formal education in equestrian studies and later into a career in law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in 2009 from The University of Findlay, where her concentration was Riding and Training. She went on to receive her J.D. from the University of Toledo in 2012.
Her legal training overlapped with practical experience. While in school she served as a student representative for Wolters Kluwer Law & Business in 2010, a role that exposed her to legal publishing and research tools used by practitioners. After graduation she joined Burnett & Williams, PC as an associate in 2012, where she handled client matters and began building courtroom familiarity.
In 2014 she took on a leadership role at Melone Hatley, P.C., becoming a managing partner. That move put her in charge of both casework and the business side of a small firm. Colleagues describe her as the sort of lawyer who rotates between client files and administrative tasks. She has been listed as a managing partner since 2014 and has continued to grow the office’s operations and caseload.
Melone holds membership in the Virginia State Bar and is active in several professional groups. She joined the Virginia Bar Association, the Fairfax Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Society of Virginia in 2012. She has been a member of the Animal Legal Defense Fund since 2012 and has served on the Events Committee of Ladies DC beginning in 2013. These affiliations place her in circles that include litigation practitioners, regional bar leaders, and advocates for animal-related legal issues.
Her background in equestrian studies and sustained membership in animal-law circles suggest an ongoing interest in matters affecting animals and their owners. She has balanced that interest with participation in broader trial and bar activities across Virginia. Outside the office she continues to be involved in community and association events tied to the legal profession.
She is managing partner at Melone Hatley, P.C., where she practices law in Virginia.
