About Randall

Randall Smith trained at two institutions that emphasize reasoning and writing. He earned a B.A. in American Studies at Carleton College before taking his law degree from Stanford University. Those classrooms shaped a careful, analytical approach to legal problems.

After law school he established his practice in Minnesota, where he now handles cases across the state's courts. His work centers on consumer bankruptcy and related litigation. He represents individual debtors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 matters and handles adversary proceedings and collection defense. He also assists clients in weighing options and understanding how bankruptcy interacts with other areas of consumer law.

Smith’s courtroom work has required close attention to procedure and to shifting federal and state rules. He spends time on motion practice, plan confirmation hearings, and contested matters. He prepares clients for depositions and trials when disputes move beyond the bankruptcy court. His day-to-day caseload often balances negotiated resolutions against contested litigation.

Professional associations occupy an important part of his calendar. He is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers and takes part in the Minnesota State Bar Association through the Bankruptcy and Consumer Litigation sections. He also holds membership in the Ramsey County Bar Association. Those memberships put him in regular contact with other practitioners and provide access to specialized continuing education and case law updates.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and direct in courtroom presentations. He writes and edits court filings to make complex problems easier for judges and opposing counsel to follow. Outside hearings, he focuses on client counseling, assembling financial schedules, and developing repayment plans that respond to clients’ immediate needs.

In the years since earning his degrees, Smith has built a Minnesota practice grounded in consumer bankruptcy and consumer litigation. He maintains an active role in professional groups that track changes in bankruptcy law and practice. He currently practices consumer bankruptcy and consumer litigation in Minnesota.
