About Rafael
Rafael Gomez trained at Rutgers. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 and returned to Rutgers for law school, earning his Juris Doctor in 1992. While at Rutgers Law School he participated in the Mock Trial Competition, an early indicator of an interest in courtroom work.
Soon after finishing law school, Gomez began a career in private practice that has spanned more than three decades. He built experience across state and federal dockets in New Jersey and New York. Over the years he has handled matters that required courtroom appearances in both state trial courts and federal courthouses. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, and also to the New Jersey and New York federal courts. His admission to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court is part of the list of jurisdictions where he is authorized to appear.
Gomez’s early years in practice included routine litigation tasks: drafting pleadings, preparing motions, and arguing hearings. Those responsibilities expanded as he took on more complex matters and managed cases from inception through resolution. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and direct in court. Clients have relied on him to handle procedural and substantive issues that arise when disputes proceed to trial or alternative resolution forums.
Throughout his career he has balanced trial work with case management duties. He has experience navigating federal procedures as well as state rules. That dual familiarity informs his assessments of how a case might fare in different venues. His work in federal courts in New Jersey and New York required attention to local practices and to the scheduling demands of busy dockets.
Outside the courtroom he has served as the principal of his own practice, running office operations and client intake. The firm listed on his public profile is Rafael Gomez, Lawyer at Law, P.C. In that role he has overseen case strategy, negotiated settlements, and handled client communications. Running a small firm has also meant supervising support staff and coordinating with experts when cases demanded technical or specialized input.
He continues to maintain an active practice in 2026. His admissions to state and federal bars and to the U.S. Supreme Court allow him to represent clients across multiple forums. He currently represents clients in matters that require litigation in New Jersey and New York courts and in corresponding federal jurisdictions.
