About R James Christie
R James Christie III earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2003. He completed his legal training at a Midwestern law school and then established a practice centered in Alaska. His education forms the foundation of a career that has been closely tied to criminal defense organizations and courtroom work.
Early in his professional life Christie joined national and state bar groups that align with defense practice. He became a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2005 and later joined the Alaska Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2010. His involvement in the Alaska group deepened when he served on its Board of Directors from 2010 until 2016, a period during which he contributed to the organization’s programs and member activities.
Christie’s experience has been shaped by that sustained association work and by regular practice in Alaska courts. He has represented individuals in criminal matters and taken cases through various stages of the judicial process. Colleagues describe him as methodical in courtroom preparation and attentive to procedural detail. He has balanced trial work and case strategy while engaging with professional groups that discuss evolving criminal law issues.
His tenure on the Alaska Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ board exposed him to policy discussions, continuing legal education efforts, and the practical needs of defense attorneys across the state. Serving on a board often requires working on rules, organizing events, and advising on member services. Those responsibilities intersected with his day-to-day legal work and informed how he approaches client representation.
Today Christie practices at Tetlow Christie, LLC. The firm handles matters in Alaska courts and draws on the combined experience of its lawyers to manage cases from arraignment through resolution. At the firm he continues to represent clients in criminal defense proceedings while remaining active in professional circles that focus on defense practice.
He remains a member of both the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Alaska Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Christie’s current practice is based in Alaska and centers on criminal defense work at Tetlow Christie, LLC.
