About Pierce

Pierce Murphy earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2011 after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he read journalism and philosophy and graduated in 2007. He arrived at law school with a background in critical reading and written advocacy, skills he carried into early legal work and classroom coaching.

He began his post-law-school career in 2012 at Leitess Friedberg PC. That same year he returned to the University of Baltimore School of Law as an adjunct faculty member and coach for the intramural moot court program. The coaching role placed him in daily contact with students learning appellate brief writing and oral argument technique. Those months in the classroom helped shape his approach to legal writing and courtroom presentation.

By 2017 he had moved to Silverman Thompson, where he has worked as an attorney since. At the firm he has handled matters that require practice in federal courts and bankruptcy forums, often drafting briefs and appearing in hearings. His time at Silverman Thompson built on the appellate and trial skills he practiced earlier in his career.

Murphy is admitted in multiple federal and state jurisdictions. His admissions include the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland and the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. He also holds bar memberships in both Maryland and Virginia. That range of admissions allows him to pursue work across district and appellate levels, and in bankruptcy proceedings when cases require it.

Colleagues describe his courtroom style as measured. He writes for clarity and aims for arguments that judges can follow without digging. Outside of hearing and brief schedules he has stayed connected to legal education by coaching and mentoring younger lawyers and students when schedules allow.

Murphy’s background in journalism and philosophy shows in his drafting: concise sentences, attention to structure, and an eye for the factual record. His practice has included federal litigation, bankruptcy matters, and appellate work across state and federal courts. He currently practices at Silverman Thompson, handling federal litigation, bankruptcy matters, and appeals.
