Philip Earl Cook is a seasoned mediator and arbitrator based in Los Angeles, California. He has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1990, bringing over three decades of legal expertise to his practice. His areas of focus include business and commercial disputes, intellectual property, insurance coverage and bad faith, class actions, and employment and discrimination claims. Additionally, Mr. Cook has experience in securities litigation, making him a versatile figure in the legal field. Mr. Cook earned his Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law in 1990. During his time at UCLA, he served as an editor for the Law Review, honing his analytical and writing skills.

Prior to this achievement, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Pacific Christian College, now known as Hope International University, in 1979. This educational background provides him with a unique perspective on human behavior, which is invaluable in mediation and arbitration settings. His legal career began as an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in 1990 — Following this, he undertook a clerkship with the Honorable Consuelo B. Marshall in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. This experience laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors. Mr. Cook then joined Jones Day, where he spent nearly two decades as a partner.

During this time, he handled a broad array of business and public law issues, further establishing his reputation in the legal community. In 2015, Mr. Cook founded The Cook Law Firm, focusing on business litigation while simultaneously developing his mediation practice. His commitment to alternative dispute resolution led him to serve as a court-appointed mediator and early neutral evaluator for various courts, including the California Court of Appeal and the Los Angeles County Superior Court. In 2021, he began serving as a judge pro tem for the Los Angeles County Superior Court, adding to his role within the judicial system. In 2025, Mr. Cook joined JAMS, bringing with him a wealth of litigation and dispute resolution experience. He is recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, Super Lawyers, and ALM Media for his contributions to the field.

His leadership roles include serving as President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. In addition, he has been actively involved with Public Counsel, the nation's largest pro bono law firm, where he served as Board Chair. He is admitted to the State Bar of California, all U.S. District Courts in California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
