About Peter S. Van

Peter S. Van Keuren combines a construction background and a law degree from the University of Florida. He earned a Bachelor in Building Construction Management in 1983 and completed his Juris Doctor in 1989. Those two educations form the foundation of a career that bridges technical construction issues and courtroom advocacy.

After law school he began practicing in Florida. Over the years he has developed work that sits at the intersection of construction and civil litigation. His training in building construction gives him an ability to read project problems in technical terms. His legal training lets him translate those issues into claims, defenses, and trial strategy.

His credentials reflect that blend. He holds a Certified General Contractor license from the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board. The Florida State Bar has board certified him as a Civil Trial Lawyer. The Florida Supreme Court has designated him a Certified Circuit Mediator and a Qualified Arbitrator. Each credential signals an aspect of his practice: contractor licensing and project work, courtroom trials, and alternative dispute resolution.

In practice he handles construction-related disputes and broader civil litigation. Typical matters include contract claims, payment and lien disputes, construction defects, and related tort or professional-liability issues that arise from building projects. He also takes on cases that require bench or jury trials and those better suited to arbitration or mediation. He represents owners, contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals at different stages of a dispute.

Courtroom time and ADR work both play important roles in his catalog of work. Board certification in civil trial law reflects sustained trial experience and peer review under Florida Bar standards. Certification as a circuit mediator and qualification as an arbitrator keep him active in settlement processes and private dispute resolution. The contractor license helps him assess technical evidence and coordinate expert testimony.

He has practiced in Florida for more than three decades. That tenure has allowed him to move fluidly between litigation, arbitration, and mediation on construction matters and other civil cases. He currently focuses his practice on construction and civil trial litigation, arbitration, and mediation in Florida.
