About Pete
Pete Strom graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1977 and earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1981. He completed his legal education as the 1980s began, entering a profession that would move him between public service and private practice. Those academic years laid a conventional but solid foundation. He went on to build a career that includes trial work, appellate appearances and organizational leadership.
Early in his career he served in the Department of Justice. In 1993 he was the United States Lawyer for the District of South Carolina, a role that placed him on the front line of federal prosecutions and litigation for the district. That federal experience informed his later practice and helped him develop familiarity with Fourth Circuit procedure. He is admitted in South Carolina and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Strom has been active in bar and trial lawyer circles for decades. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar and helped establish the South Carolina Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He belongs to the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference and the National Association of Former United States Lawyers. He has participated in trial lawyer groups at the regional and national level, including the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.
He has also taken on governance roles. He has served on the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors since 2013 and has been on the American Association for Justice Board of Governors since 2012. In 2010 he chaired the South Carolina Bar’s Judicial Funding Task Force. Earlier, he was president of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association for the 2009–2010 term. These positions have kept him involved in policy discussions affecting courts and litigation practice in the state.
That combination of public service and leadership in professional organizations has shaped his courtroom approach. He has handled matters at both the trial and appellate levels. His memberships suggest sustained involvement in criminal defense and civil trial work, and his federal tenure adds prosecutorial perspective.
Strom practices from his own firm, Strom Law Office, L.L.C. He continues to appear in state and federal courts and to contribute to bar governance and trial lawyer forums. He currently practices from Strom Law Office, L.L.C., handling trial and appellate matters in South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit.
