About P. Vaughan Russell
P. Vaughan Russell Jr. earned his undergraduate degree in political science and English at the University of Alabama, then stayed in Tuscaloosa to complete his law degree at the University of Alabama School of Law. His academic path combined liberal arts and legal training. That background informs how he approaches complex legal problems.
After law school he entered private practice and advanced into leadership roles. Over time he has taken on increasing responsibility at his firm and now serves as a shareholder at Webster, Henry, Lyons, Bradwell, Cohan & Speagle, P.C. The position involves case oversight, client counseling and supervising other lawyers within the firm.
Russell is admitted to practice in Alabama and is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He handles litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. His work regularly places him in state courts across Alabama and in federal appellate proceedings.
His memberships reflect the circles he moves in professionally. He belongs to the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association. National organizations on his roster include the American Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. He also maintains memberships in groups tied to the defense and claims side of litigation: the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance, and the Alabama Workers Compensation Organization.
Those affiliations mirror the kinds of matters he takes on. He represents employers, insurers and other corporate clients in defense litigation and related disputes. He also handles workers' compensation issues, where he advises clients on both case strategy and regulatory compliance. His practice involves drafting pleadings, arguing motions and managing discovery, as well as advising clients before and after trial.
At the firm he participates in case strategy meetings and contributes to policy decisions affecting litigation practice. Colleagues turn to him for experience in handling contested matters that may move from trial court to the appellate level. He combines courtroom work with the office tasks that keep a litigation practice moving forward.
He currently represents employers and insurers in defense litigation and workers' compensation matters.
