About Oto
Oto Ekpo built a legal path that moves between the courtroom and the office where policy is made. He combines early frontline prosecutorial work with later roles in training, policy and compliance. The result is a career that crosses practice and administration.
He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a B.A. in Psychology in 2006. He went on to Emory University School of Law, finishing his J.D. in 2009. Those years shaped both his approach to advocacy and his interest in how systems operate behind the scenes.
Ekpo began his public-service legal career in DeKalb County. In 2010 he joined the DeKalb County District Lawyer's Office as a prosecutor. He handled matters that prosecutors typically face and developed courtroom experience early in his career. Over the years his duties expanded beyond trial work into training and policy development for the office.
In 2021 he was appointed Director of Training and Policy at the DeKalb County District Lawyer's Office. The role put him in charge of educating new prosecutors and refining internal procedures. The next year he moved to the Fulton County Solicitor's Office as Director of Advocacy and Compliance Officer. That post paired oversight responsibilities with work on advocacy strategies and compliance programs.
Alongside his roles in county government, Ekpo has been active in professional and community organizations. He serves on executive boards of the Georgia Association of Black Women Lawyers and holds memberships in the Junior League of DeKalb County, the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, the DeKalb Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Georgia. Since 2023 he has been a member of the Board of Governors, a role he continues to hold.
Ekpo later transitioned to private practice and now serves as Of Counsel at Finch McCranie, LLP. His public-sector background informs his work in the firm, particularly in areas that intersect with training, policy and compliance, as well as matters rooted in prosecutorial practice. He is licensed to practice in Georgia and maintains involvement in local bar and civic groups.
He currently practices at Finch McCranie, LLP, handling matters that draw on his public-sector experience in prosecution, training, policy and compliance.
