About Nicole L.

Nicole L. Phillips built a path to law that began in the liberal arts and moved steadily into classrooms and courtrooms. She arrived at legal study after earning a bachelor’s degree in European history from the University of California, San Diego in 2010. She then completed her J.D. at the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2015, a period when she combined classroom work with early hands-on legal experience.

Her first roles in the legal field overlapped with law school. In 2014 she worked as a law clerk at Morasse, Collins, & Clark, APC. That experience led directly into her first post-graduate position. In 2015 she served as an associate lawyer at the Law Offices of Tanya Gomerman and then moved in 2016 to Bertrand, Fox, Elliot, Osman & Wenzel as an associate lawyer. Before law, she held a non-legal management position at American Eagle Outfitters in 2006, an early workplace role that she has cited as formative in understanding organizational dynamics.

Over the next several years she moved through a series of associate roles in private practice. In 2018 she joined Dannis Woliver Kelley as an associate and in 2019 she worked as an associate at Littler. She returned to Morasse Collins & Clark, APC in 2020 as an associate lawyer. These positions exposed her to litigation practice, client counseling and regulatory work across multiple firms and settings.

In 2021 Phillips shifted to academia, taking a faculty position at the University of San Francisco School of Law as an assistant professor. Her transition from practitioner to professor reflects a growing interest in legal education and the training of new attorneys. At USF she has been involved in classroom teaching and mentoring law students, bringing practical experience from the firms where she practiced.

Phillips is admitted to practice in California. Her career shows a steady move from frontline legal work to an academic role that still engages with practical issues. She has maintained connections to the bar and to legal practice even as she expanded into teaching.

Today she serves on the faculty of the University of San Francisco School of Law. She currently focuses on legal education at the University of San Francisco School of Law.
