About Nick
Nick Rice grew up in Tennessee and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, earning a B.A. in 2000. He stayed in state for law school and received his J.D. from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2003. His academic record set the stage for a steady career in family law and dispute resolution.
He launched his legal career soon after law school. In 2003 he served as a senior associate at Rice Caperton Rice PLLC, where he handled client representation and learned courtroom practice. Over time his responsibilities expanded to include case strategy, client counseling and negotiation. He later joined Rice Law as a partner, continuing to handle matters that navigated both litigation and negotiated outcomes.
In 2016 Rice took on an additional role in the alternative dispute resolution system. He became a Rule 31 Family Law Mediator under the Tennessee Supreme Court ADR Commission. That credential allows him to act as a neutral facilitator in family law cases, helping divorcing couples and families address parenting plans, property division and related disputes outside of trial. The mediator role has become a consistent element of his professional work.
Rice’s practice sits at the intersection of contested family matters and negotiated settlement. He has spent years representing clients in divorce, custody and support issues, and he also spends substantial time conducting mediations. His experience in both advocacy and neutral settlement work gives him an uncommon perspective on how cases might resolve without trial. He prepares cases for court when necessary, but he also places practical emphasis on dispute resolution processes.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing documents and deliberate in advising clients about options. He divides his professional time between client representation and mediation appointments, and he maintains active practice in Tennessee courts and the ADR system. His background includes courtroom advocacy, case management and the procedural work that family law frequently requires.
Rice continues to practice at Rice Law in Tennessee. He remains involved in family law litigation and mediation and handles matters for clients seeking either courtroom resolution or negotiated settlement. His current practice focuses on family law and family law mediation.
