About Stan

Stan Medlin earned a B.A. in Political Science from Lee University before taking his legal training at Vanderbilt University Law School, where he completed his J.D. He moved from a broad undergraduate study of government into law school to deepen his understanding of how policy and law intersect. Those years shaped his analytical approach and his precision with statutory text and case law.

After law school, Medlin joined Black McLaren Jones Ryland & Griffee, P.C. as an associate lawyer. In that role he has worked on the kinds of tasks typically entrusted to associates: legal research, drafting motions and memoranda, preparing discovery, and supporting trial teams. He also handles client communications and participates in strategy sessions with senior attorneys. Colleagues describe him as methodical in his preparation and careful in his written work.

Medlin is licensed to practice in Tennessee. He has built his practice within the state’s legal framework and appears regularly before state courts and administrative bodies when matters so require. His work involves navigating Tennessee procedure and precedent, and he keeps current on developments that affect clients in the region.

The transition from law student to practicing lawyer was marked by steady exposure to both litigation and transactional matters. At the firm, he has had opportunities to assist on contested matters and on negotiated resolutions. He has also supported complex discovery and motion practice. Those assignments have given him experience in courtroom preparation and in managing the document-intensive side of contemporary litigation.

Outside the office, Medlin’s background in political science informs how he evaluates public policy implications for clients. He approaches problems by breaking them down into discrete legal questions, then tracing the statutory and doctrinal answers that apply. That method shows up in his casework. He collaborates closely with partners and staff at Black McLaren Jones Ryland & Griffee, P.C., where he continues to develop his practice. He currently practices law in Tennessee and handles matters on behalf of the firm’s clients in the state.
