About Ms Kathryn G

Ms Kathryn G Coffman combined a business undergraduate degree with formal legal training before entering practice. She studied business at the University of Texas at Arlington and went on to earn her law degree from Southern Methodist University, where her coursework concentrated on tax and bankruptcy law. That mix of business and legal study shaped the area of law she later chose to pursue.

At SMU Dedman School of Law, Coffman took a hands-on role in clinical education. She served as Chief Student/Lawyer in the Tax Clinic, working directly with clients under faculty supervision. The clinic experience exposed her to the practical side of tax controversies and bankruptcy-related tax issues and provided courtroom and client-contact experience typical of law school clinics.

After law school she became a licensed lawyer in Texas and has maintained that standing. She is admitted to practice before the Eastern and Northern District Federal Bankruptcy Courts as well as in the State of Texas. Those admissions allow her to handle bankruptcy matters that arise in federal bankruptcy court as well as related state-level legal work.

Coffman belongs to professional organizations connected to her work. She holds current membership in the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association. She is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers. Those memberships place her in a professional network focused on bankruptcy practice, consumer issues, and the procedural developments that affect clients in insolvency matters.

Her career path reflects steady concentration on tax and bankruptcy practice. Early clinical work introduced her to client advocacy and case handling. Subsequent licensing and court admissions have allowed her to continue in that lane. She has handled matters that require navigating federal bankruptcy procedures as well as tax consequences that can arise in insolvency contexts. Her approach is pragmatic. She aims to apply her combined business and tax training to help resolve the legal and financial questions that bring people to bankruptcy court.

She practices in Texas and keeps active memberships that connect her with peers who practice consumer bankruptcy law. Her current practice focuses on consumer bankruptcy and tax-related bankruptcy matters.
